The Magic of Ellesmere Winter Festival!

Published on Tuesday December 16th, 2025

Shropshire has turned up the festive cheer once again at the Ellesmere Winter Festival – and this year’s celebrations truly captured hearts far and wide! According to The Shropshire Star, hundreds of residents filled the streets as The Polar Express rolled into town, bringing joy and wonder to families on Friday 28 November.

A Festive Parade Like No Other
Santa made his grand entrance aboard a beautifully crafted Polar Express replica locomotive – complete with carriages – delighting children and adults alike. The festive procession continued through the town, with families joining in after welcoming Father Christmas at the canal wharf on an illuminated narrowboat.

Lanterns, Lights & Community Spirit
Young festival-goers lit up the night carrying handmade lanterns created in workshops hosted by Fizzgigs arts group. The display was a standout moment in an evening filled with sparkle – from the Christmas lights switch-on at the old town hall to the lively brass band and carols that kept spirits high.

Festive Fun for All Ages
With a Christmas grotto in the Market Hall, rides on the ferris wheel, food and drink stalls, and beautifully decorated shops and cafés lining the streets, Ellesmere was buzzing with seasonal joy. Local traders, community groups, and volunteers came together to make this year’s festival truly unforgettable.

Whether you were looking for festive family fun or a magical winter day out in Shropshire, the Ellesmere Winter Festival delivered it in abundance – blending tradition, creativity, and community spirit in the heart of our county. Don’t miss out in 2026!
