The Barns at Blackwater Meadow: Luxury Lodges and Exciting Expansion in Ellesmere

Published on Wednesday December 17th, 2025

As The Barns at Blackwater Meadow marks its first anniversary in 2025, there’s plenty to celebrate. Tucked away in the beautiful Ellesmere countryside, this luxury lodge park offers more than just a holiday escape – it’s a place where history, community, and sustainability come together in a truly special setting.

The land on which The Barns stands has been farmed by the same Ellesmere family for three generations, and that sense of local connection runs through everything they do. By creating jobs, supporting the community, and championing eco-friendly initiatives, The Barns has quickly become part of the town’s story while welcoming visitors from far and wide.

Just a short stroll from the heart of Ellesmere, the 20-lodge park has already become a sought-after destination for those looking to combine modern luxury with countryside tranquillity. Each lodge has been thoughtfully designed with comfort in mind-whether you’re soaking in a private hot tub, dining al fresco, or simply enjoying the peace and quiet. With EV charging points available too, it’s a holiday choice that blends indulgence with sustainability.

One of the things that makes The Barns so appealing is its “no-car-needed” location. Guests can wander straight from their doorstep along the Llangollen Canal, through Plantation Wood, or down to The Mere to enjoy its wildlife and scenery. A short walk into Ellesmere brings you to a mix of independent shops, welcoming pubs, cafes and cosy restaurants – perfect for picking up local produce or enjoying a night out before heading back to your lodge retreat.

The Barns has already earned many glowing 5-star reviews on Trip Advisor, praised not only for its peaceful setting but also for offering an experience that balances adventure with relaxation. Whether you’re walking through wildflower meadows, exploring the Shropshire countryside, or simply unwinding in your lodge, every stay feels like a chance to reconnect with nature while enjoying all the comforts of a modern getaway.

With its strong ties to the local community and a vision firmly set on sustainability, The Barns at Blackwater Meadow is more than just a place to stay – it’s a destination to discover and return to time and again.

Exciting Times at Ellesmere’s Canal-Side Retreat

There’s some wonderful news for anyone planning a visit to Ellesmere – Blackwater Meadow Marina is expanding! Plans have been approved to add 16 new timber-clad lodges to this already popular canal-side getaway, offering even more options for short breaks and longer stays.

The Barns at Blackwater Meadow first opened in 2024 with 20 self-contained caravans, providing a cosy base for exploring the beautiful Llangollen Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal. The new lodges will include a mix of sizes, perfect for couples, solo travellers, or small groups, making it easier than ever to enjoy a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature.

This expansion isn’t just great news for the park itself – it’s fantastic for Ellesmere too. More visitors staying locally means more people exploring the town, enjoying its independent shops, browsing the market, or taking a break in one of the many cafes and restaurants. The development has been carefully planned to blend into the landscape, with improvements to

landscaping and the surrounding environment, so it will feel like a natural extension of this charming part of Shropshire.

Whether you’re looking for a relaxing weekend away, a family adventure, or a peaceful retreat by the water, the expanded Blackwater Meadow Marina offers the perfect base to enjoy all that Ellesmere, and its surroundings have to offer.
