Explore The Mere at Ellesmere
Where you can find us
We can thank the retreating glaciers of the last ice age for North Shropshire’s many ‘Meres and Mosses’.
The Mere at Ellesmere is the largest of them all and offers a great location to explore the mainly flat trails.
Take in the views of the mere, the ancient Motte and Bailey, pleasure gardens and nineteenth century aristocratic buildings that line the shore.
Check out the website to find out about activities that take place on the water, including canoeing and rowing boat hire.
As you wander along the shore, look out for the wildlife including bats, badgers, herons, gulls and wildfowl.
There is plenty for the young visitors to enjoy, including one of the largest playgrounds in the area.
You won’t go hungry as food and drinks are available from the historic Boathouse Visitor Centre or the town is just a short walk away with its many eateries.
There is plenty of pay and display parking nearby.
